Boot Camp Series: March Towards Sustainability Through Code (Undergraduate)

I run a hands-on Boot Camp Series for underrepresented undergraduate students focused on applying AI/ML to real sustainability problems.

Highly selective: Chosen 6 extremely motivated participants.

Program Highlights

Project-oriented camp for students with prior AI/ML knowledge.
Full pipeline support:
- Problem recognition & project selection via brainstorming & collaboration
- Data preprocessing & preparation
- Implementing multiple AI/ML models on a real dataset
- Evaluation, results, and visualization
Introduction to research & publication:
- Conference paper structure & formatting
- Technical writing for submission
- Peer review & acceptance process

Boot Camp Outcomes

Publication: Anish Roy, I. E. Domínguez-Keenan, A. Saleh, S. Kodaboina, O. Nasri, M. Barraza, “Efficient Sailboat Price Prediction Using Linear, Boosting and Deep Learning Models”, IEEE International Conference on Computing (ICOCO), Oct 6–8, 2025, Malaysia.
Students successfully coded and completed real-world AI/ML projects; collaboration continued offline.
Hands-on experience across the full AI/ML workflow (from brainstorming to visualization).
Learned fundamentals of academic writing & conference paper preparation.
For many, this was their first exposure to publication.
Group collaboratively authored a paper, submitted and accepted at IEEE.

Motivation & Goal

Living with CF involves hours of isolating daily treatments. Nebula is a dedicated space where patients can connect in real-time, seeing who else is in treatment, pairing up to watch videos, or playing games together to reduce isolation.
