2023 – Present

Teaching Experience at Schoolhouse

Schoolhouse.world

Since 2023, I have been tutoring on Schoolhouse.world, a platform dedicated to peer tutoring. I have impacted over 100 learners across 15 countries, accumulating more than 10,000 minutes of tutoring time. My sessions primarily focus on mathematics, including Algebra 2, and Geometry. I have hosted more than 140 sessions. More than 250 learners rate my sessions as “super helpful” and more than 150 learners rate my sessions as “helpful” Additionally, I have taught computer science topics such as Python programming and introductory AI/ML concepts outside schoolhouse.

Beyond tutoring, I have contributed to the community by organizing and leading learning sessions, and providing mentorship to fellow tutors. This experience has honed my skills in communication, leadership, and educational content creation.

WeEMBRACE (501(c)(3) nonprofit), Sacramento, CA

WeEMBRACE supports individuals with different abilities and their families through inclusive programs. I design and deliver learning experiences adapted for neurodiverse learners.

Courses & Activities

Beginner’s Chess (Sept 27 – Nov 15):

I teach an online Beginner’s Chess course specifically designed for neurodiverse students, motivated by my belief in the cognitive and social benefits chess can provide. Chess enhances focus, problem-solving, memory, strategic thinking, and patience—all skills particularly valuable for neurodiverse learners. By creating a supportive and engaging environment, I aim to help these students build confidence, develop critical thinking, and enjoy learning in a structured yet fun way.

As someone born in South Korea and a former National Chess Champion who represented Korea in the Under-8 category at the 2017 Asian Games, I bring both competitive experience and a deep understanding of chess fundamentals to my teaching. I am committed to adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs and helping each student reach their potential.
Fun Math (Jun 18, 2024 – Aug 6, 2024):

I taught online Fun Math classes for neurodiverse students, aiming to make mathematical concepts engaging, accessible, and enjoyable. Through hands-on activities, games, and creative problem-solving, I help students build confidence, logical thinking, and a love for learning. Each lesson is tailored to meet diverse learning styles, fostering curiosity and critical thinking in a supportive environment.
Buddy Match Program (2022):

In 2022, I participated in the WeEMBRACE Buddy Match Program, where I was paired with a neurodiverse child. Through online sessions, I played games, socialized, and taught basic concepts such as shapes, colors, numbers, and alphabets in a fun and engaging way. This experience allowed me to develop patience, creativity, and communication skills while making a meaningful impact on my buddy’s learning and social development. It was incredibly rewarding to see the child’s progress and enthusiasm, reinforcing my commitment to inclusive education and mentorship.

Motivation

Computer Science is not a mandatory subject in most middle and high schools, despite its growing importance in nearly every field. As a result, many students miss out on early exposure to essential CS skills that they are likely to use in their future careers. Additionally, there is a significant shortage of qualified CS educators at the middle and high school levels due to long hours and limited compensation, making it challenging for students to access quality instruction. As a high school student passionate about computer science, and AI/ML, I want to make advanced technology education accessible to middle and high school students in my community. Over the past year, I’ve organized boot camps that helped students gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and showcase their creativity. Partnering with the library will allow me to expand this impact in an inclusive space where students of all backgrounds can learn, collaborate, and grow. I believe the library can serve as a hub for innovation and youth empowerment, and I am excited to work together to inspire the next generation of problem solvers.
