Introduction to AI/ML Bootcamp Series
What? The AI/ML Learning Series, led by Anish Roy, is a comprehensive, year-long program of boot camps, showcases, and a culminating hackathon for middle and high school students, with a focus on underrepresented groups, in partnership with SJPL at the SJSU King Library. Following the highly successful Fall 2025 launch, where dozens of student-led projects were showcased, registration is now open for Spring 2026.
What’s my Role?: Program Director & Lead Instructor
My Passion Project Roadmap / Big Picture
Fall 2025 Bootcamp Spring 2026 Bootcamp Summer 2026 Bootcamp Fall 2026 Bootcamp
My Motivation
- Computer Science isn’t a mandatory subject in most middle and high schools—even though it’s becoming essential in almost every career.
- This leads to many students missing out on early exposure to important CS skills.
- There’s also a shortage of qualified CS teachers due to long hours and limited compensation, making quality instruction hard to access.
My Mission
As a high school student passionate about Computer Science and AI/ML, I want to make advanced tech education accessible, engaging, and inclusive for students in my community.
Over the past year, I’ve organized hands-on boot camps that helped students build confidence, learn real skills, and express their creativity.
What I did
- Served as Program Director and Lead Instructor for the Fall 2025 AI/ML Boot Camp in partnership with San José Public Library, leading end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery.
- Designed and delivered a 16-hour AI/ML curriculum (Python, data preprocessing, ML, intro deep learning, and applied projects), with 120+ hours invested in creating slides, labs, homework, datasets, posters, and outreach materials.
- Led all instructional sessions using hands-on, project-based learning, live coding, and real-world datasets focused on sustainability and healthcare.
- Built and managed the program’s digital and operational infrastructure, including Google Classroom, communications, scheduling, and coordination.
- Recruited, trained, and led a volunteer instructional team, maintaining a 5:1 student-to-volunteer ratio to support labs and hands-on activities.
- Provided continuous mentorship and technical support, including debugging, code reviews, and individualized guidance.
- Facilitated team formation, collaboration, and project development, guiding students through problem definition, model selection, evaluation, and interpretation.
- Integrated ethical AI, responsible data use, and societal impact into the curriculum.
- Directed the final project showcase, including judge recruitment, rubric and criteria design, evaluation coordination, and program flow.
- Secured funding for prizes and awards, designed certificates for participants and volunteers, and managed recognition efforts.
- Organized volunteer support systems, including food, logistics, and on-site assistance.
- Partnered closely with SJPL staff on logistics, outreach, accessibility, and program execution.
- Collected feedback and assessed outcomes to continuously improve future boot camps.
